Social night

Social Night reimagines long-distance train travel by blending sustainability, social connection, and comfort. This strategic compartment concept introduces a two-deck interior with distinct social and sleeping areas, ensuring privacy while fostering meaningful interactions. A digital matching service pairs compatible travelers, enhancing safety and predictability. Inspired by ecological, economic, and social sustainability, the design prioritizes affordability, low maintenance costs, and biobased materials for a greener future. By bridging communities—locally and internationally—Social Night reduces prejudice and loneliness while offering a viable alternative to air travel. With Sweden’s Trafikverket planning new night trains by 2030, this project aligns with evolving travel needs and environmental goals.
