The Ark positions the former Harbour Mills in Sligo as a site where material agency, ecological thinking, and heritage adaptation converge. The project transforms the underused industrial building into a vibrant Centre for Environmental Research and Artistic Collaboration, which treats the existing Hennebique structure not as a container but as an active participant, shaping how research, making, and public encounter unfold. The Ark positions adaptive reuse as an ongoing negotiation between site, material experimentation, and collective ecological imagination. Parasite structures, modular systems, and reclaimed elements preserve the building’s essence while enabling flexible, community driven use, creating a context aware hub for environmental engagement.
