TUULI is a furniture piece which explores design for small living spaces in response to increasing housing costs, urban density, and limited residential space. The design combines multiple functions into a single adaptable piece of furniture. It consists of five levels that rotate around one pivot point, allowing the user to transform the setup according to different needs. Depending on its position, TUULI functions as a sideboard, a clothes drying rack, a table surface, and two shelving units. By integrating everyday functions into one compact and flexible object, TUULI aims to maximize space efficiency and support contemporary urban living. TUULI is constructed from a metal framework made of square steel tubing. The 1 mm sheet metal panels are bent around the tubular structure and spot-welded to create a clean and enclosed surface. The complete construction is then powder-coated, providing a durable finish while allowing the furniture to be produced in different colours. Each individual layer is supported by small ball-bearing castors, allowing the elements to rotate smoothly and effortlessly around the central pivot point. The modular construction also allows the individual layers to be easily assembled and disassembled, as they are simply mounted onto the central axis. For the further development of TUULI, additional material tests are planned, exploring alternative constructions and material possibilities such as wood and plastic.
